Youth Ministry
Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers inCIA speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity.
1 Timothy 4:12 (NIV)

Jr CIA & Confirmation

Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.

  • Jr. CIA
The Junior CIA is for students in the 6th through 8th grades. We meet on the 2nd Sunday of the month at 4:30 p.m. in the Youth Room for Bible study and fellowship activities. On the 4th Sunday of the month we get together just to play sports/games and have fun from 4:30-6 p.m. We also do service projects and fund-raisers throughout the year.

  • Confirmation
Confirmation is an important time in your child’s life and OSL takes this responsibility very seriously when taking on the task of training your child for their public confession. Confirmation classes are taught by Jeff Armstrong for all 6th - 8th grade students on Sunday mornings during the Sunday school hour. By holding the classes at this time, we hope to develop relationships among all of our Confirmands as they receive their instruction together, whether they be from OSL School or any other local school. Students are given a Learn By Heart Workbook which contains their lessons and homework, and needs a parent's signature. Written unit tests on each of the Six Chief Parts of the Catechism, including the most important doctrinal content and memory work will be given at the end of each unit. Passing all six of these Unit Tests will be a basic requirement for Confirmation.

  • Sunday Attendance
As these children plan to publicly dedicate their lives to the Lord, it is imperative to get into the habit of attending church regularly. All Confirmation students will fill out an attendance card and be in church and Sunday School at least three Sundays out of four. Attendance will be taken and monitored. Because class is being taught during the Sunday School hour, please make every effort to schedule things after noon so that no one falls behind.

  • Sermon Outlines
It is very important for the children to participate in worship. All 6th-8th grade students are to write two sermon outlines per month. By actively listening to the spoken Word they will be able to start associating their doctrinal studies to the worship service. Sermon outline sheets are provided in the narthex and are to be handed in to Mr. Armstrong or placed in the offering plate.

  • Acolyte Program
By being an Acolyte, all 6th-8th grade students have the chance to help provide and lead in meaningful worship.

  • Parent Participation
As always, parental participation is strongly welcomed and encouraged. If you would like to help in any way during your child’s time in Confirmation please don’t hesitate to ask. The more parents involved the stronger the ministry. We look forward to a very exciting and God-pleasing year.

If you have any questions concerning the above material or with your child’s Confirmation instruction, please contact:

How can young people keep their way pure? By guarding it according to your word.
Psalm 119:9 (NRSV)

The Senior CIA is for our high school students in the 9th-12th grades. High school is a time of rapid growth of mind, body and spirit. Staying involved with the people of your faith strengthens your character and better prepares you for life as an adult. Participating in service projects not only builds up the family of God but also gives valuable life experience.

  • Lutheran Education Association of Houston (LEAH)
Our Savior provides congregational assistance to those students attending Lutheran High North or Lutheran South Academy . Students must be members in good standing, attending Sunday services and Bible class at least 75% of each month of the year. Attendance is monitored and assistance is issued on a month-by-month basis. Forms are available in the church office and need to be renewed for each enrollment year.

Anyone who is in high school that would like to join the youth website should contact Adam and he will send them an invitation:
