Jesus Before Pilate

23 Then the whole company of them arose and brought him before Pilate. 2 And they began to accuse him, saying, “We found this man misleading our nation and forbidding us to give tribute to Caesar, and saying that he himself is Christ, a king.” 3 And Pilate asked him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” And he answered him, “You have said so.” 4 Then Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowds, “I find no guilt in this man.” 5 But they were urgent, saying, “He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, from Galilee even to this place.” Luke 23:1–5

Jesus Before Pilate

The enemies of God accuse, rage, and spite. The whole company of them brought false testimony to the governor. Pilate saw through it all. He finds no guilt because there is no guilt. But it must be in order to fulfill all righteousness. Jesus must die because we are guilty. God's plan of rescue and life means that Jesus must die. So, he lays down his life of his own accord. He who knew no sin becomes sin for you a me. He takes our sin and gives us his life instead. The Word of God always stirs things up, but the Word of God made flesh renews and restores all things, from this place and even to the ends of the world. Thanks be to God--He does all things well.
