Victory Will Be Ours

January 13, 2019
By Martin Luther

Ask of Me, and I will make the nations Your heritage, and the ends of the earth Your possession.

Victory Will Be Ours

Christ's kingdom is and will remain, and He shall rule in the midst of His enemies. In this way we should encourage ourselves also in our private struggle, when our hearts are terrified by the Law, sin, death. Then we should seize on this verse: "I will make the nations Your possession and the ends of the earth Your inheritance." That is, we should believe that by the authority of the Father, Christ was appointed Lord over all things so that salvation depends on Him alone. We have been baptized into His death (Romans 6:3); therefore when we call on His name, when we trust in His Word, we should believe that victory will be ours and that through Him we shall conquer death and hell. For God the Father is not preaching here about garlic and onions. He delivers all things into the hands of the Son so that those who believe in Him might be saved, but those who do not believe will be lost and condemned. Therefore the world, Satan, and our heart should not alarm us. We are indeed afflicted and oppressed in various ways, but the Son of God has preceded us in this very course. He also experienced the raging of the heathen and the threats and attacks of the kings, but at last He was declared to be the king over all the nations of the earth.
