Converted to the Truth

October 01, 2018
By Martin Luther

Restore us again, O God of our salvation, and put away Your indignation toward us!

PSALM 85:4

Converted to the Truth

Therefore no one can be converted to God unless he has first been converted to Christ, as He says (John 14:6): "No one comes to the Father, but by Me." Consequently the prophet, who sees that many, indeed almost all, of his people could go astray, be offended, and be turned away from Christ, prays that they might be converted. And that happens through the knowledge of Christ or God incarnate. . . . Therefore it is extremely necessary for us now to be converted, lest we offend against the truth which meets us in marvelous ways, so that we could not turn to it anywhere unless God is gracious to us and turns our face toward recognizing it by turning away His wrath from us, so that we do not turn our back to it and are thus turned away from it. . . . If we are converted to the truth, God's wrath is turned away from us.
