From the Heart

Praise the LORD! I will give thanks to the LORD with my whole heart.

PSALM 111:1

From the Heart

For genuine Christians it is their real accomplishment and the highest service of God when they praise God and do so out of their whole heart. No other man on earth can reach that accomplishment. True, the world is full of hypocrites who say with their mouth: "I thank the Lord." But it does not come from their heart. As St. Paul says (1 Corinthians 12:3), no one can call Jesus Lord except by the Holy Spirit. Whoever would thank God must sincerely realize and confess that the thing for which he offers thanks is purely God's grace and gift. No one can recognize the gifts of God by his own reason; but the Holy Spirit must show it to our heart, as St. Paul teaches (1 Corinthians 2:12): "We have received the Spirit of God, that we might understand the gifts bestowed on us by God."
