Living in the Light
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
PSALM 119:105

Living in the Light
It is a great gift of God to live in the light of the Word and the divine calling. For this is the golden and round crown that shines around the heads of the saints, as they are commonly depicted, namely, the Word, which directs the course of life day and night. Thus David says in Psalm 119:105: "Thy Word is a lamp to my feet," and 2 Peter 1:19 says: "You do well to pay attention to the Word as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns, etc." Reason is in darkness. Therefore it has need of the light of the Word as a leader and guide. . .. We must note this carefully in order that we may know that nothing should be done, considered, and carried out rashly, but only when we have the Word of God, whether it is written in a book or, if anything special is to be undertaken, has been handed down by parents or magistrates. Consequently, we should do nothing contrary to the obedience and reverence we owe to God. One should not invite the devil as a guest.
