The Hand of the Lord
“But ask the beasts, and they will teach you; the birds of the heavens, and they will tell you; or the bushes of the earth, and they will teach you; and the fish of the sea will declare to you. Who among all these does not know that the hand of the LORD has done this?

The Hand of the Lord
To Job, and to any honest person, the existence of God is self-evident. We have to look no further than His creation. A creation demands a creator. Job argues that even God’s creation is aware of what Job’s friends are not, God is in control. In pain and turmoil Job speaks hasty words which place the cause of his suffering in the hands of the Lord, but more than this he is witnessing to the truth that God is in fact in control. Our virtue or sinfulness is not in direct correlation to our suffering or joy. Rather our pain and joy are often beyond our control. As in the case of Job, pain and suffering was meant to strengthen Job’s faith and ultimately does. And though we don’t always see the hand of God in the happenings of our lives, especially when it comes to the tragic, in faith we can trust that God is indeed in control. “For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38-39).
