Pleading God’s Case
Hear now my argument and listen to the pleadings of my lips. Will you speak falsely for God and speak deceitfully for him? Will you show partiality toward him? Will you plead the case for God? Will it be well with you when he searches you out? Or can you deceive him, as one deceives a man?

Pleading God’s Case
Adam and Eve’s temptation in the garden was they would be like God. They wanted to be just as He is. The same is true for us today. Every time we sin, we tell God we don’t need Him as our God because we will be our own, with our own set of laws. We also have the habit of convincing ourselves, much like Job’s friends, that we are pious individuals, so much so that we can speak for God. We step in to be His lawyers and convict those around us of every sin they commit. We forget that God does not need us to plead His case. He is quite capable of doing that on His own. What we are actually called to do is witness to the truth of who God is. We are to confess with Paul nothing “except Jesus Christ and him crucified” (1 Corinthians 2:2). God does not need us to defend Him, we need Him to defend us. And that is exactly what Christ does as we hear in the epistle to the Romans, “Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us,” (Romans 8:34). Thank God we have an Advocate with the Father in Christ Jesus who pleads our case before the Father.
