Standing Firm When the World Falters

16 “I have said all these things to you to keep you from falling away. 2 They will put you out of the synagogues. Indeed, the hour is coming when whoever kills you will think he is offering service to God. 3 And they will do these things because they have not known the Father, nor me. 4 But I have said these things to you, that when their hour comes you may remember that I told them to you.

Standing Firm When the World Falters
Jesus speaks soberly to His disciples, warning them that faithfulness to Him will not win applause from the world. Such hostility often arises from spiritual blindness, those who think they serve God may oppose Christ and His Church. Jesus does not tell us these things to frighten us, but to keep us from falling away. He prepares us so that when trials come, we remember His Word rather than trust our feelings. For Christians today, the temptation is to believe that hardship signals God’s absence. But the cross of Christ teaches the opposite: God’s deepest work is often hidden beneath suffering. Our confidence rests not in the world’s acceptance but in the crucified and risen Lord who has already borne every hostility for us. Because He endured the cross, we can stand firm, knowing that nothing the world brings can separate us from His saving love.
