Trusting in the Emptiness
Let him not trust in emptiness, deceiving himself, for emptiness will be his payment. It will be paid in full before his time, and his branch will not be green.
Job 15:31-32

Trusting in the Emptiness
Trust is a hard thing to come by these days. Too often it seems we trust in people who only let us down. When we place our trust in the things of this world we are trusting in the perishable. Those things “which moth and rust destroy” and in the end can bring no true comfort. We too often look to the creation as opposed to the Creator. This does not mean that we should not look favorably upon God’s people, after all, they are created in His image just as we are. It does behoove us however to first, “Trust in the Lord and do good” (Psalm 37:3). When our trust lies with Christ, it never returns empty. For in Christ the fulness of God dwells. In Christ we have a brother who knows all which we go through, the joys and pains, the struggles and success. For He is like us in every way except without sin. He is the Branch which sprouts new life in us. He is the fullness we can trust in. He is the One who makes our cups overflow. And in faith we do as the psalmist says, “Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act. He will bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday” (Psalm 37:5-6).
