Rebelling Against the Light

There are those who rebel against the light, who are not acquainted with its ways, and do not stay in its paths. The murderer rises before it is light, that he may kill the poor and needy, and in the night he is like a thief.
Job 24:13–14

Rebelling Against the Light
Darkness has always been part of this world. At any given time, half of our planet is in darkness.  Night was created for our good.  It was to be a time of rest. A time of rejuvenation. Yet in man’s desire to be like God, we destroyed His perfect creation, and the night not only became a time of fear and terror, but at the same time we rejected the goodness of the light. We shun it because it exposes our sickness and sinful deeds. But even before the day and the night were created the Light existed (John 1:1-5).  And since the fall we have been rebelling against the Light.  As Job says, “The murderer rises before it is light, that he may kill the poor and needy, and in the night he is like a thief.”  Yet as hard as the darkness tries it cannot overcome the Light.  Christ, the Light of the world, shattered the darkness of sin, death, and the devil, when He walked out of that tomb on Easter morning.  He has overcome the darkness of our sin, by taking the punishment we deserved.  Now because of Christ crucified, we are no longer creatures of darkness but children of the Light.  Our hearts have been purified through the “washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit (Titus 3:5).  No longer blind, Christ, the Word of God “is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” (Psalm 119:105).
