Clear and to the Point
I will stretch out my hand against Judah and against all the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and I will cut off from this place the remnant of Baal and the name of the idolatrous priests along with the priests, those who bow down on the roofs to the host of the heavens, those who bow down and swear to the LORD and yet swear by Milcom, those who have turned back from following the LORD, who do not seek the LORD or inquire of him.”
Zephaniah 1:4–6

Clear and to the Point
We have a God who is not ambiguous. He lays it all out on the line concerning the worship of false and idolatrous gods. He will not tolerate it, for He is a jealous God. He does not want to share you with anything. We hear in these verses the Lord declaring that a final judgment will come worldwide for the sins of humanity, but He does not stop there. He then pronounces specific judgments against faithless Judah. We like Judah, deserve this same treatment. We deserve God’s anger when we replace God and His Word with what we find exciting, entertaining, or perhaps financially beneficial. But God’s Law shows us our sin and drives us to repentance. He forgives our sins because Christ, our Savior, willingly went to the cross and suffered judgment in our place. When we fail to always give Him first place in our lives, we come to the cross in contrition and repentance, asking for forgiveness. The Lord moves us daily to seek His guidance and help. And in Christ Jesus, we have it.
