Walk in God’s Ways
And the angel of the LORD solemnly assured Joshua, “Thus says the LORD of hosts: If you will walk in my ways and keep my charge, then you shall rule my house and have charge of my courts, and I will give you the right of access among those who are standing here. Hear now, O Joshua the high priest, you and your friends who sit before you, for they are men who are a sign: behold, I will bring my servant the Branch. For behold, on the stone that I have set before Joshua, on a single stone with seven eyes, I will engrave its inscription, declares the LORD of hosts, and I will remove the iniquity of this land in a single day. In that day, declares the LORD of hosts, every one of you will invite his neighbor to come under his vine and under his fig tree.”

Walk in God’s Ways
Left to ourselves, we don’t ever walk in the ways of God. But here he is commanding us to walk in his way as he promises every blessing to those that do. There must be an intervention. There must be some way that we can be pulled away from our sin and the ways of this world. Indeed, there is an interruption, and that interruption is the Holy Spirit of God. He calls you by the Gospel, enlightens you with his gifts, and sanctifies and keeps you in the true faith. The only way you know the Way is if the Holy Spirit creates faith in your heart by his work in your life. When the Lord Jesus told the disciples that they knew the way, Thomas asked him, “We don’t know where you are going, how can we know the way?” Jesus answered them, “I AM the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me.” This Way is the Branch that has come to redeem us and bring us back to the Father. It is the only way to heaven. It is the only way to eternal life. In a single day, this Branch, this Way, this Redeemer, this Son of God has redeemed the whole world. He died on the cross and crushed the head of the serpent. He rose again and now you are victorious with him. Now, you live with him forever. Now, you enjoy the shade of the heavenly fig tree forever.
