Do Not Cling, Go and Tell

17 Jesus said to her, “Do not cling to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to my brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’ ” 18 Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, “I have seen the Lord”—and that he had said these things to her.

Do Not Cling, Go and Tell
Mary Magdalene reaches for what she has lost and found again. Grief gives way to joy, but Jesus redirects her grasping hands into faithful ears and willing feet. This is not a rejection of love; it is the ordering of faith. Jesus prepares Mary, and the Church, for His ascension, teaching that communion with Him will no longer be by sight or touch, but by His Word and promise. The risen Lord sends Mary as the first witness, not to cling to Him, but to confess Him. The cross still stands at the center of this message. The One who was crucified is now risen, and His wounds remain the proof that sin is forgiven and death defeated. He calls His disciples “brothers,” because the cross has reconciled them to His Father. So also with us. We do not cling to Christ as though He might be lost again. We receive Him where He has promised to be, and we go and tell.
