The Testimony That Is Enough

24 This is the disciple who is bearing witness about these things, and who has written these things, and we know that his testimony is true.
25 Now there are also many other things that Jesus did. Were every one of them to be written, I suppose that the world itself could not contain the books that would be written.

John 21:24-25

The Testimony That Is Enough
John ends his Gospel not by saying everything, but by confessing restraint. There is more Jesus did, far more than ink and pages could hold. Yet what is written is enough. The purpose here: not exhaustiveness, but trustworthy witness. The beloved disciple testifies so that sinners may know Jesus rightly, not as a curiosity or moral example, but as the crucified and risen Lord. That matters for us, because we are often tempted to want more: more proof, more experiences, more answers. But Christ does not give us speculation. He gives us Himself, delivered in Word and Sacrament. The cross stands at the center of this testimony. There, the eternal Son finished the work the Father gave Him to do. Nothing essential is missing. What is written is sufficient because what is written gives us Christ. And Christ, given for sinners, is enough, for faith, for forgiveness, for life.
