The Place of the Skull

So they took Jesus, 17 and he went out, bearing his own cross, to the place called The Place of a Skull, which in Aramaic is called Golgotha. 18 There they crucified him, and with him two others, one on either side, and Jesus between them.
John 19:16b-18

The Place of the Skull
Remember, o man, that you are dust, and to dust you shall return. God said that in the day of sin there would be death. There must be the shedding of blood to pay for sin. God requires a payment. His wrath is kindled against man because of our rebellion. Make no mistake. Our sin is a rebellion and a fight against God. He is slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love, though. He is not like us. Instead of exacting his payment from each of us, he sends his Son to pay for all of us. The Babe of Bethlehem comes into the world, under the Law, to do what none of us could and then he receives our punishment for us. They took him to the place of the skull, Golgotha, and they killed him. It is his coronation. It is his work to save and redeem the world and specifically you and me. There on a hill outside of Jerusalem, Jesus dies so that your death would not be eternal punishment, but instead a portal to life everlasting with him.
