Wisdom and Might

“With God are wisdom and might; he has counsel and understanding. If he tears down, none can rebuild; if he shuts a man in, none can open. If he withholds the waters, they dry up; if he sends them out, they overwhelm the land.
Job 12:13-15

Wisdom and Might
Job continues to respond to his friend by insisting that God is in control and that His wisdom and might are incomparable to anything we mere humans might possess.  But as we will see Job still has a since of bitterness in his voice as he tries to make since of his own situation.  This is the difficulty many Christians face.  We know God is God and we are not, we know His ways are not our ways and His understanding above ours, yet we still try and make sense out of what is often times a senseless situation. And this is where we get in trouble.  We listen the world, the devil, or our own sinful flesh which all try to convince us it is all God’s fault, or at least not ours.  What anguish we would be spared if only we would heed the words for St. Paul to the Romans, “Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways!  ‘For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been his counselor?’ ‘Or who has given a gift to him that he might be repaid?’ For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen” (Romans 11:33-36).
