Times of Judgement

Why are not times of judgment kept by the Almighty, and why do those who know him never see his days? Some move landmarks; they seize flocks and pasture them. They drive away the donkey of the fatherless; they take the widow’s ox for a pledge. They thrust the poor off the road; the poor of the earth all hide themselves.
Job 24:1–4

Times of Judgement
“You just wait, you’ll get yours.” We often have this feeling when we are wronged.  We can’t wait for God to enact revenge upon those who have slighted us.  Of course, we pray for God’s patience, understanding, and forgiveness when the shoe is on the other foot.  God does not act as our own personal enforcer.  He is not cosmic muscle for hire.  His wrath is meted out according to His time and His measure.  And thanks be to God that He is a patient God. For we all have sinned and fallen short of His glory (Romans 3:23).  God works all things according to His time, and “at the right time Christ died for the ungodly” (Romans 5:6). Therefore, God’s time of judgement which was meant for us was delivered on a cross two-thousand years ago, so that we our final judgement day comes, God will see His punishment already poured out upon Christ. We are clothed in Christ’s righteousness and have the assurance of salvation because of what He did for us.  His atonement paid the price of our sin.  God’s judgement of death meant for us was taken by Jesus.  We have been justified by His blood and now live as new creations in Christ Jesus, through God’s rich and abundant means of Grace.  His Word and Sacraments bring forgiveness of sins and strengthening of faith to us.  Because of Christ, we are declared not guilty! We are set free!
