Numbered Steps

I have made a covenant with my eyes; how then could I gaze at a virgin? What would be my portion from God above and my heritage from the Almighty on high? Is not calamity for the unrighteous, and disaster for the workers of iniquity? Does not he see my ways and number all my steps?
Job 31:1–4

Numbered Steps
God sees everything. For some this brings great comfort, for other great terror. When we are in need, we want God there by our side. When we are in the midst of sin, we want to be hidden from His eyes. Yet no matter our state God indeed knows the number of our steps. He watches over us as a dear father cares for his dear children.  And as our Father, He guides us in the paths of righteousness, laying before our feet His Law as it curbs, mirrors, and guides us along our path. When we run afoul of His Law we suffer, yet He still provides recourse.  With contrition and repentance, we plead guilty of all our sins, even the ones we are unaware of, knowing that He forgives us for the sake of His only Son, Jesus Christ.  And with the soothing Gospel we are healed.  As we are led by the Holt Spirit in faith, we are carried along through God’s Word to know His path He would have us travel.  His Word becomes a “lamp to my feet and a light to my path” (Psalm 119:105). The devil, attempting to destroy everything good God has created, places stumbling blocks along our paths, but in the light of God’s Word, we do not lose our footing. And finally, when our mortal journey is completed, and our bodies laid to rest, we have the joy of knowing that all of those steps which we have taken in our lives, by the grace of God, have led us into His presence for an eternity.
