New Life in Christ
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

New Life in Christ
In his great wisdom, God the Father has caused you to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. Peter is preaching to you about baptism. Later he will say that baptism saves you. Here he says who is responsible for your baptism: God the Father. Did you notice the blaring passive voice? God the Father has caused you to be born again. Jesus tells us that no one comes to him unless the Father drags him. God the Father drags us through the waters of baptism into the righteousness and faith of Jesus. There he gives you the gifts that Jesus has won. Those of us who have been baptized into Jesus have been baptized into his death and his resurrection. God the Father did this for you. He wants you in his love. He calls you his children. He calls himself your Father. You have been made new in Jesus Christ.
