Jude, a servant of Jesus Christ and brother of James, To those who are called, beloved in God the Father and kept for Jesus Christ: May mercy, peace, and love be multiplied to you.

To those Who are Called
Jude addresses his letter to those who are called. The 3rd Article of the Creed reminds us that faith comes when the Holy Spirit calls us by the Gospel. The work of the Holy Spirit is to bring that Word of God to God’s people and to call them out of darkness and death into the Lord Jesus’ marvelous light. That means that you are wrapped in the righteousness of Christ and when God the Father looks at you, he sees his beloved Son. Jesus makes you righteous like himself. He makes you beloved like himself. And though we must live in this life of struggle, the Holy Spirit keeps us in the true faith and keeps us for Jesus. He daily and richly forgives all your sins and keeps you in the true faith by the very Word of God that brought you faith in the first place. He binds you up together with all believers in the one true church. That means you are the called and the beloved of Jesus. Thanks be to God.
