Jesus is Mocked

Jesus is Mocked

If only they knew who it was that they were mocking and beating. The things the soldiers did that day, your sinful nature would have been okay with, too. The Living God is a scandalous God to our sinful nature. We can't comprehend a God that would condescend to becoming part of his creation. We can't abide with a weak God. The fact that the soldiers could beat him proved to their sinful nature that he wasn't God. The promises of God to save and to make new proved otherwise. Stricken, smitten, and afflicted the whole human race did all kinds of horrible things to Jesus. Every stripe, every wound, all the mocking and bitter pain was all for you. And like a sheep is silent before its shearer, so also Jesus stood silent and took the suffering for you. This is love: Jesus suffering for you and taking your punishment so that you would go free. All glory be to Jesus who suffered for you.
