The Hour
18 When Jesus had spoken these words, he went out with his disciples across the brook Kidron, where there was a garden, which he and his disciples entered. 2 Now Judas, who betrayed him, also knew the place, for Jesus often met there with his disciples. 3 So Judas, having procured a band of soldiers and some officers from the chief priests and the Pharisees, went there with lanterns and torches and weapons.

The Hour
The fullness of time had come. Jesus was sent into the flesh of Mary and you and me for this very hour. The Word that caused all things to come to be, who comes with healing in his wings, is attacked and violently executed for your rescue and redemption. So they come for him with weapons. They come with swords and clubs just as they would come against a robber. Jesus threatens our security in our own sins. He destroys the life ruled by darkness and rebellion. This old Adam will not go without a fight. But, Jesus takes it all on for you and me. He goes silently into the night. It didn't look like a holy night, but what was meant for evil, God meant for good. This One that goes to the garden is the Savior of the whole world. The weapons will kill him, but he destroys death for us forever.
