The Lord Our Healing and Our Shame-Bearer
14 Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed;
save me, and I shall be saved,
for you are my praise.
15 Behold, they say to me,
“Where is the word of the Lord?
Let it come!”
16 I have not run away from being your shepherd,
nor have I desired the day of sickness.
You know what came out of my lips;
it was before your face.
17 Be not a terror to me;
you are my refuge in the day of disaster.
18 Let those be put to shame who persecute me,
but let me not be put to shame;
let them be dismayed,
but let me not be dismayed;
bring upon them the day of disaster;
destroy them with double destruction!

The Lord Our Healing and Our Shame-Bearer
The prophet Jeremiah teaches us to pray in distress not with polished strength but with honest need before the Lord who alone heals and saves. Jeremiah is not confident in himself but clings to God's promise amid mockery and rejection. When the world asks where God's word is, the believer endures shame looking to the One who bears shame for us. In Christ, every reproach and accusation is carried to the cross, where our guilt is answered with mercy. Therefore we pray boldly for healing, salvation, and deliverance from evil, trusting not in our righteousness but in Christ alone. Even when enemies prosper, the Lord remains our praise and refuge. He will vindicate His people in His time, through the crucified and risen Savior. Until that day, we wait with hope anchored in His promises and His finished work for us.
