The Lord Sustains
8 “‘“But if any nation or kingdom will not serve this Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and put its neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, I will punish that nation with the sword, with famine, and with pestilence, declares the Lord, until I have consumed it by his hand. 9 So do not listen to your prophets, your diviners, your dreamers, your fortune-tellers, or your sorcerers, who are saying to you, ‘You shall not serve the king of Babylon.’ 10 For it is a lie that they are prophesying to you, with the result that you will be removed far from your land, and I will drive you out, and you will perish. 11 But any nation that will bring its neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon and serve him, I will leave on its own land, to work it and dwell there, declares the Lord.”’”

The Lord Sustains
The Lord prescribed King Nebuchadnezzar to rule over his people. The people of Israel were punished by an unlikely character. It was the Lord's doing. We don't always agree with the situations of our life or the people who have been placed in authority over us. The Lord sustains us. The Lord takes care of you. He has said that he will defend you against all danger and guard and protect you from all evil. He provides everything you need for this body and life. He sends his Holy Spirit to you. Not only does he give you what you need for your body, but he also sustains you in your spirit. This Spirit brings the gifts of Jesus' cross and resurrection. He applies them to you. We don't always agree with the way we are being disciplined and nurtured. God sustains us even as he purifies us.
