Salt of the Earth
13 “You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet. 14 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

Salt of the Earth
The world is going to hell in a hand basket. That which preserves it and keeps it is the most unexpected thing. It is the Word of God made manifest in the hearts of Christians. The great preserver is not the lies of the devil and the passions of the world, no, it is the Gospel of Christ who went to the cross to make the world alive. The world has plunged itself into deep darkness. The blind lead the blind into ditches and off the edges of cliffs. It is the Holy Spirit active in the hearts of God's faithful that brings the light of Jesus, lighting the whole world. Jesus comes to save the whole world. He comes because of his great love for all men. He comes to suffer the cross to forgive your sins and to make you new. He is your tasty salt and the lamp that is your light. He is your foundation and your rock. He has transformed you to be like him. You are salt and you are light because of what he has done for you. Amen, so shall it be.
