Before Others
6 “Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. 2 “Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. 3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

Before Others
The reward for you in waiting in heaven. Your flesh would have you enjoy something fleeting while you are here. The devil tries to convince you to enjoy the moment, get the accolades, and revel in the popularity. But that is not the way for you and me. We do not practice our righteousness before men in order to be seen by them. We practice our righteousness because Christ is in us and we are living out our lives as his people. The reward is not realized here. Here we trust no one. Here we live in love and fight with the Word of God upon our lips. We love, not to get a reward, but because we have the Holy Spirit in our heart and Jesus in our midst. Here, we love because Jesus died before all men and drew all men to himself. Here, we love because Jesus rose again and justified us before the Father. Your heavenly Father has been reconciled to you and he sees you. He knows you.
