Keep Listening

Keep listening to my words, and let my declaration be in your ears. Behold, I have prepared my case; I know that I shall be in the right. Who is there who will contend with me? For then I would be silent and die.
Job 13:17-19

Keep Listening
There is a symphony of background noise which attempts to drown out the Word of God in our lives.  It comes from all directions and from many different people and things.  Society, friends, work, hobbies, entrainment, our own desires all sing to us the siren song of freedom and self-determination.  Their alluring melody drifts through the ether, always there, always ready to be heard.  The end goal is to silence the sweet sound of the Gospel.  So where do we turn our ears to? To whom do we keep listening? The devil, the world, and our own sinful flesh would have us ignore God’s Word and listen to only that which leads us away from Christ. Yet the Word tells us, “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life” (John 5:24).  The sweet voice of our Good Shepherd guides us through this broken world, and bids us lie down in green pastures beside still waters.  We keep listening to the voice of Jesus, who calls us by name, and lets us know, “that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).
