Do You Not Know?

Then Zophar the Naamathite answered and said: Therefore my thoughts answer me, because of my haste within me. I hear censure that insults me, and out of my understanding a spirit answers me. Do you not know this from of old, since man was placed on earth, that the exulting of the wicked is short, and the joy of the godless but for a moment?
Job 20:1-5

Do You Not Know?
Zophar has bided his time after his first speech to Job and the subsequent rebuke by Job. But now he once more leaps into the fray and chides Job, saying to him that he must know that he and the others are right. Job can’t deny that he has brought all this calamity upon himself. The “exulting of the wicked is short” hence Job complete and total ruin financially and emotionally, “and the joy of the godless but for a moment”, a moment which has passed by Job as he suffers in pain and abandonment. What more proof do you need, Zophar seems to be saying to Job.  Look at you present state, you have caused this. But Job does know, he is not answering in arrogance, but in faith. He trusts that he is not suffering at the hands of God even if he can’t explain the source of his suffering.  We have the benefit of knowing the whole story, we know that the suffering of Job comes from the father of lies and that he is the one who is attaching Job. So now when we face our own Job like catastrophes, we can answer the Zophars in our lives, with, “Yes I do know.” It is not God who is the source of suffering but the devil. And we also know that he has been defeated. The Calvary attest to this fact.  In Christ we know where our redemption comes form and we know were salvation lies.
